The Datejust isn’t Rolex’s best selling watch without good reason. Buy the one that’s right for you and you’ll be wearing a classic lifetime watch. In all honesty, a Datejust does it all perfectly. My only rolex is a tt datejust (16233 oyster bracelet). I really like it; it was one of the few used watches at my AD and the gold tapestry dial, oyster bracelet, and two-tone color was really appealing to me when I first saw it. I just bought my first Rolex, a DJ41 Thursday. I was pretty much in hour shoes, as I had so many questions. If you can wear a DJ36, there are tons of them on the used market, and there are excellent bargains. I purchased a very similar Datejust II as my first Rolex. I felt that it was just super versatile, classic and the price was within my budget. This piece is absolutely stunning too. But the most important thing is buy what you truly like.

I've always liked the Datejust and it was my first entry to Rolex back in 1989 when I bought a new 16233. Still have it and wear it today. Have to admit though, I wear my Sub (16610) and GMT (16710) far more often but I no longer wear suits and live in a rural part of Idaho now. This is my first Rolex, and I have to say, I am over the moon with it. When spending this amount of money, it opened up Pandora’s box for other possibilities. I finally narrowed it down between the Zenith a384 revival, and about a million variants of the Datejust. My first Rolex (and nice watch) was a GMT rootbeer, and I've worn 36mm DJ's, too. I really like the 36mm DJ's but have never cared for the proportions of the 41mm DJ. So, I'd go with a GMT over any version of the 41mm DJ.
Now, what I am looking for exactly is a "very simple" Datejust 36, not two tone, rather with a white or silver dial (with "baton" index) and a jubilee bracelet. So far it looks pretty simple but what I wanted to know is your feedback on the various different references out there (e.g. 160xx series are better than the 162xx serie). I’ll share everything you want to know about the specs, wearability, and quality of this Rolex classic, along with how it may have very well changed by wearing habits and watch tastes forever. Six months ago, I bought a Datejust 41 and have been wearing it .
hi - I will be buying my first Rolex soon and decided to go with the Datejust over the Oyster Perpetual. I'm pretty set on 126234 (oyster steel/white gold, fluted, jubilee) For dial color, I was leaning blue because I thought they didn't have the config I wanted in black but visited my AD today and they said they can order it. Compatibility. All Mercon fluids are incompatible with Mercon LV. Despite not being combined with Mercon V, Mercon LV can still be used with older GM Dexron on transmissions. This is because these transmissions require them to be customized to meet their demands. In contrast, Mercon V is typically used for Ford automatic transmissions.
