When I sweat a lot while wearing the watch (e.g. bike commuting while wearing a watch) 2. When the humidity in the air drops sharply. Rolex stainless steel didn’t change to 904L until around 2005-ish (I think) so if you’re allergic to one, you’re probably fine with the other. There's lots of stainless steel allows, 316L just happens to be the most common one for watches (often called marine grade.)
